Debate

I didn't like John McCain's insinuation that the US needs to keep fighting in Iraq until there is certain victory because if not then all US soldiers who have died in Iraq will have died in vain. He mentioned a mother of a dead soldier telling him to stay in Iraq so that her son would not have died in vain. He also mentioned that it's terrible when the US has to come home in defeat. To me it was an insult to all the soldiers who fought in Vietnam, of which he was one which makes it seem all the more ludicrous of an argument. Barack Obama then said no soldier has ever died in vain because all soldiers who die are following the orders they have been given. Given McCain's military background, you wouldn't think he would have the view that a country should fight until they are victorious and never back down until then. I'm sure that is not his only reason for wanting to stay in Iraq and I think he was trying to appeal to people's emotions when he made the argument, but forgot that most people have brains too.

I'm also wondering why the argument that the US went into Iraq to bring the terrorists there, instead of the US, hasn't been brought up lately. It's even more shameful when you think that the US decided to use another country as a battleground, instead of their own, under the guise of being liberators. So Iraq would bear the brunt a war between the US and an enemy that was never an enemy of Iraq. Think of all of the Iraqi lives that have been lost.

Barack seemed to be on the defensive most of the night, but he did a good job. He seems more genuine that McCain. Most of the time McCain seemed to have a smirk on his face and would say things that were untrue so then Barack would have to spend all of his response time refuting everything McCain had just lied about.
